Five Indian Origin Girls To Compete in Miss Universe

The 68th edition of Miss Universe pageant took place yesterday. It was hosted by the United States at Tyler Perry Studio. This year was really exciting for us, as five girls of Indian origin were a
part of this contest. They competed against each other for the Miss Universe pageant
2019. This happened for the first time ever in the history of this international beauty
pageant. Even though these five contestants represented their own countries
internationally we cannot overlook the fact that they share their connection with India. Is not
it a proud moment for all of us?

Name of all the five contestants

Vartika Brij Nath Singh: Vartika Singh who is an Indian model represented India
at the Miss Universe pageant 2019. This glamorous model has already made headlines by
winning Miss Grand India 2015 and Miss Universe India 2019.

Shweta Sekhon: A Malaysian model Shewta Sekhon was a part of this beauty pageant. She represented her own country Malaysia. Although she belongs to a Punjabi family, Shweta Sekhon was born and brought up in Kuala Lumpur by a single mother. She is a titleholder of Miss Universe Malaysia 2019.

Mohana Prabha: This Indian origin full-time model is also a Biomed student. Mohana
who represented Singapore in the Miss Universe pageant 2019 feels that it was again the time for her country to get recognition in this international beauty pageant.

Mehr Elieser: Mehr Elieser was born in New Delhi but raised in Panama. Apart from being a model, she was crowned the title
Senorita Panama in 2019. This Panamanian-Indian model
represented her country Panama this year in the Miss Universe pageant.

Priya Serrao: She was born in Belmannu, Karnataka. When Priya was aged 11 years her family flew to Australia. This beautiful woman who won Miss Universe Australia 2019 is a
lawyer. She was seen in the Miss Universe pageant 2019 representing her country
Australia.
A walk down the memory lane

Every one of us is quite aware of this international beauty pageant named Miss Universe. If
we consider its live TV coverage, annual airing in over 190 countries to almost billions of
audiences it will be the largest beauty contest to take place globally. The first edition of Miss
universe was held in California on 28 th June 1952. Armi Kuusela from Finland won the first
Miss Universe title. Catriona Gray from the Philippines, the reigning Miss Universe passed the prestigious title to South Africa's Zozibini Tunzi. An interesting fact about this year is that we saw a new crown being introduced from the jeweler Mouawad.
Name of Indian women who already won

Sushmita Sen: Are not we all quite familiar with this gorgeous woman? Sushmita Sen who
is a perfect personification of beauty with brains won the title of Miss Universe on 21 st May 1994. She became the first-ever Indian woman to win this pageant. Sushmita Sen was just 18
years old when she won this prestigious title. Her strong personality, bright intellect, and
pleasing smile inspire many of us. Indeed we all are proud of her.

Lara Dutta: Another Indian woman who won the Miss Universe title is Lara Dutta. She was crowned the title on 12 th May 2000. After 1994, it was the second time that India won this
distinguished title. Before becoming Miss Universe, she became the titleholder of Miss
International in the year 1997.
