In Part two of our nutrition for nails series, we list some more, some surprising foods that help your nails stay beautiful.

Good health is the basic way of life, at least it should be. We almost always take care of our heart health, stomach, skin, hair, but little if any attention is paid to the nails, we must remember nails are as important as the rest of our body. The way your fingernails look is closely related to how your body is functioning, they are the indicators of nutrients in our body. For example, brittle nails indicate chances of thyroid or dietary issues, soft nails are an indication that your nails are being exposed to harsh chemicals and if that is the case, your body is being exposed to those chemicals as well.

It is a common misconception that calcium has a role to play in maintaining nail health, however, it is very clear that nails consist mostly of keratin, which is a protein, not that calcium is not necessary. Biotin and vitamin B are also essential for nail health.

A few more foods that work wonder for your nail health.

Beer

Surprising much? Yes, it is true, for an average diet beer is the richest source of silicon, one beer serving contains 10 milligrams of silicon which will help your nails stay fit by reducing its brittleness, and it works well for your hair.

Fruits and berries

Such as blueberries, strawberries, apricots and bananas provide plenty of nutrients; especially vitamin C helps produce Collagen which makes your nails resilient naturally. Dried apricots and bananas are also a great choice as they carry vitamin A and B6.

Fortified Milk

As we have all learned since we were kids that milk is rich in calcium and vitamin D, which is crucial for building strong and healthy nails and bones, so that your nails can stand all the abuse you go through, opening tiny objects like batteries, jar caps or typing rigorously.

Beans and legumes

If you are a vegetarian, hence you can’t have meat or egg to gain the protein requirements, you need not worry, the bean will do the work for you, and they are rich in biotin and act as the powerhouse of healthy nails. Legumes, on the other hand, are rich in 9 essential vitamins including biotin and vitamin D which will enhance your nail texture.

You must try and include all these foods in your regular diet, in order to stay fit and healthy. By doing so you are not only taking care of your nails but the rest of the body- hair, skin, bones as well.
